Cancellation Announcement: 8th Annual Fundraising Dinner

Given the current COVID-19 situation, Humankind International has made the decision to cancel our annual fundraising dinner, which was scheduled to take place on April 22, 2020.

It is important to us that you all remain safe, happy and healthy. We all must do our part to #FlattenTheCurve.

As the COVID-19 situation develops we are reminded that even in times of great uncertainty and anxiety we can all make a difference by not forgetting each other or the most in need among us.  Like in every crisis, this is an extraordinary opportunity to make our global community stronger and more resilient. 

It is thanks to you, our donors and supporters, that some of the most vulnerable children in the world are able to go to school, learn, and build a better life for themselves. We rely on your donations A LOT and we are so so so thankful for how much you have always supported our students.

The Humankind International dinner is our main fundraising event for Humankind Academy.  The dinner raises on average $10,000 for our organization and covers almost 20% of our school’s annual operating cost.  The loss of this revenue could affect Humankind Academy and its students in more ways than one. 

This is why we accompany this cancellation notice with an ask — can we still fundraise $10,000? We all have the power right now to limit the effect this crisis will have on the children in Dadaab.

Here are the actions you can take given this news:

1. Donate the cost of a ticket.

2. Donate the amount you would have spent at the dinner (includes the ticket price plus raffle prizes, 50/50, etc.)

3. Donate any amount that fits your budget.

A charitable tax receipt will be provided for the full amount of any donations received.

We do understand times are tough for many and if you have already purchased a ticket, we can provide you with a full refund.  If you require a refund, please contact the board member you purchased your tickets from. If you purchased your ticket through Eventbrite we will contact you directly.
