This is a photograph of the first students to graduate from Humankind Academy in January 2016. The students in white and green will attend Labasiigale Primary which is the local (Kenyan) school while the others in blue are going to Elnino Primary which is a refugee primary school in Dadaab. Humankind bought each child their new primary school uniform, pencils and books as a goodbye gift. On September 15th 2016 the UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency released a report showing that more than half – 3.7 million – of the six million school-age children under its mandate have no school to go to.Some 1.75 million refugee children are not in primary school and 1.95 million refugee adolescents are not in secondary school. Refugees are five times more likely to be out of school than the global average. Humankind is so grateful to our donors, because through their generosity, Humankind is able to offer school to our students.
