What Does Your $1000 Donation to Humankind Fund?

Our early years school is in the world’s largest refugee camp, in Dadaab Kenya, just 120 kms from the lawless Somali border. Over 400,000 displaced people live in that camp. The Humankind Academy’s monthly costs are $3228 US, so a $1000 Cdn donation pays for the entire 150 students to attend school for one week.

But it does more than that. It pays for all the 5 and 6-year-old students to receive 2 meals each day that include protein and fruit. When our school first opened every single student was assessed as malnourished. Within the first 3 months of the school’s inception, all but 3 students were no longer underweight.

But there’s more, that $1000 also pays the wages for one week, for all the staff at the Humankind Academy: 1 lead teacher, 3 full time teachers, 2 cooks, and 2 security guards. All but one of those people is a refugee.

Jobs in the camp as well as spots in our school, are precious and respected, so besides giving money, that $1000 gives something priceless. It enables the workers and students to see themselves differently, occupy their empty days and give themselves and their families hope.
